If you thought Ridley Scott was done with the Alien franchise following 2017’s Alien: Covenant, you probably don’t know much about Hollywood and its love for sequels and prequels.
According to Scott who revealed to Forbes, a new unnamed Alien film is in the works.
“That’s in process. We went down a route to try and reinvent the wheel with Prometheus and Covenant. Whether or not we go directly back to that is doubtful because Prometheus woke it up very well,” he said.
“But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like, ‘Has the Alien himself, the facehugger, the chestburster, have they all run out of steam? Do you have to rethink the whole bloody thing and simply use the word to franchise?’ That’s always the fundamental question.”
No release date, casting or details on the plot has been revealed yet. Which means, the film is still currently residing somewhere in Scott’s mind or possibly the drawing board.
ComicBook.com had reported in June 2020 that two producers were already working on a script based on an idea about world of dreams. And yes, Sigourney Weaver who plays Ellen Ripley is going to be reprising her role.
The last time Weaver appeared in the franchise was in 1997’s Alien: Resurrection. She feels its time to give Ripley a “rest“.
The first Alien film was released in 1979 and immediately became a blockbuster success. There were three sequels: Aliens in 1986, Alien 3 in 1992, and Alien Resurrection in 1997. All three were not directed by Scott.
