The more pixelated the image of these animals, the closer they are to extinction

We all know that there are thousands of endangered animals out there.

Despite statistics and charts, there has never been an effective way of visualizing just how dire the situation is for animals worldwide than this Imgur user’s images.

JJSmooth44 has been creating a series of images where the more pixelated an image, the closer the animal is to extinction.

The artist was inspired by a similar series of images created for World Wildlife Fund in 2008 called WWF Japan – Population by pixel.

Some images don’t have enough pixels to form a clear image, a symbolic representation of how our future generation would probably see them in their mind’s eye.

“I did it as a programming challenge,” the artist said to My Modern Met.

Observing his art, it’s heart breaking to note that some of these animals would soon disappear if no proactive measures are taken to ensure the survival of each species.

Many of these animals can potentially disappear within this coming two decades.
