Throughout our years spent in university, most of us have probably looked forward to walking up on the stage to collect our graduation scrolls.
For many of us, we only get to do this once, or maybe twice in our lives.
But what if you’re incredibly hardworking and manage to get yourself dozens and dozens of degrees?
Meet 39-year-old Welin Kusuma, an Indonesian man who has a whopping 32 degrees and certfications to his name.
Kicking off his tertiary education in 1999 at the age of 18, Kusuma earned a degree in Industrial Engineering, before going on to add another 31 degrees and certifications to his resume.
Ranging from 11 Bachelor’s degrees, three Master’s degrees, and 18 professional certifications, Kusuma’s apparent fixation on being as multi-disciplinary as possible has led many to question what the heck they’ve been doing with their lives.
Most people with professional certifications often add these designations into their names on official documents, just to put further emphasis on their specialized skills.
However, if you were to do the same with Kusuma, you’d find out very quickly that it’d be practically impossible to fit all of it in one document, let alone one line.
But for the sake of shits and giggles, here’s Kusuma’s name, complete with all his certifications:
Welin Kusuma, S.T., S.E., S.Sos., S.H, S.Kom., S.S., S.Ap., S.Stat., S.Akt., S.I.Kom., S.I.P., M.T., M.S.M., M.Kn., RFP-I, CPBD, CPPM, CFP, Aff.WM, BKP, QWP, CPHR, ICPM, AEPP, CBA, CMA, CPMA, CIBA, CBV, CERA, CSA, ACPA.
That’s a mouthful.
Unsurprisingly, the sheer amount of academic distinctions has earned him quite a reputation.
Back in 2012, he was awarded the record for the most multidisciplinary academic titles in Indonesia with the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI).
What would normally take his peers four-to-five semesters to complete 111 credit hours, he could do in just one semester. But obviously this meant he needed to dedicate the majority of his free time to hardcore studying.
Kusuma set aside specific time slots for each study course he was taking. The time slot happens in the morning and then at night. This would happen every single day.
He’d also dedicate a specific time during the weekend for more studying. In addition, he also took one online course as well.
His academic feats have been so recognized, he even has his own Wikipedia page.
But perhaps what blows my mind most of all is what he said in an interview with CNN Indonesia:
“University is a hobby for me, I truly enjoy learning. I’m certain that by going to university, I will gain knowledge that is useful to me in a practical sense.”
Yep. Apparently it’s just a hobby.
How many degrees and/or certifications do you have?
