• It Looks Like Netflix Is Done Offering Free Trials

One of the things a lot of subscription services tend to offer is a free trial period, whether it be for a week, two weeks, a month, and so on. Given that the company wants you to commit to them, naturally they would let you take the service for a spin first. However, it seems that Netflix is done with that.

According to the TV Answer Man’s Phil Swann, it seems that Netflix will no longer be offering new customers a free trial. In fact, Netflix’s help center page has also mentioned that free trials are not available. It is unclear when the company had put this into effect, but it essentially means that those who have yet to subscribe will not be able to try the service out before deciding whether or not to subscribe.

We also have no idea why Netflix has ended its free trial program

  • This Is My Brain on Salvia

When your attention turns inward, the communication between the brain regions in the default mode network syncs up like musicians in an orchestra. Other fMRI studies of volunteers high on better known psychedelics like LSD and psilocybin, the psychoactive molecule in mushrooms, have also shown decreases in coupling among the areas involved in this network. It’s as if the musicians in the orchestra stop following a central conductor and each start keeping time with separate metronomes. Some researchers think that the decreased activity between these network connections is part of the essence of what makes psychedelic drugs so psychedelic.

But the Johns Hopkins researchers think this is not the whole story. “Research on classic psychedelic drugs like LSD, psilocybin, and DMT has been focusing on the default mode network because it has been hijacked by a Freudian narrative that requires a concrete ‘ego,’” says Doss, referring to the psychoanalytic

  • New WordPress tool automatically turns blog posts into tweetstorms

WordPress has introduced a new feature that automatically posts entire blogs as Twitter threads, complete with all text, images, videos and embeds. You can access the feature via the green Jetback icon on the top right of the edit post page, alongside existing options to share links to Facebook and other social networks.

WordPress argues the feature is “a great way to amplify your content,” by allowing posts to reach any Twitter followers that don’t follow a WordPress blog directly. Twitter threads also often end up being much more visible on the platform compared to single tweets, and the new feature allows followers to read a post’s contents without having to click through a link.

But here’s a counterpoint: Twitter threads are an objectively terrible way of reading medium- or long-form writing. That’s why popular services like @ThreadReaderApp have cropped up to

  • Malaysia might be one of the first countries to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

There is a light at the end of the tunnel Malaysians.

On October 12, 2020 Malaysia’s prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that coronavirus vaccines might arrive in the country by the end of the year.

Muhyiddin said during his national broadcast that he has been in talks with China on vaccine production and distribution. He said, “I had a bilateral meeting through a video conferencing with China’s Foreign Minister, where we discussed about support and cooperation with China on vaccine supplies.

“As we all know, China is currently the most advanced in studying the (Covid-19) vaccine discovery; I was informed that it has reached the final stage and the vaccine could be used before end of the year after clinical trials are done.
